I am sure this has been addressed before but couldn’t find it in the search. I want to put a light system on a Mossberg 500, HD model, short barrel and wondering what would be a good rail system option for it.

Surefire makes a replacement pump with a built in light. Costs more than the gun. What are you looking to mount?

better judged by twelve than carried by six.

That is what I was planning to mount, a light. I will look into them.

You can get a better light for less. There are tons of ways to mount it.

If your 500 has an extended magazine there are some nice lights/mounting kits on ebay for $30 and up. For use on a firearm I would not use a rechargeable battery. Get a light that runs on CR123 batteries.

It does not have the extended magazine. And thanks for the advise on the batteries, I was leaning that way but unsure.

Black Aces makes a nice rail. I went retarded on my first shotgun, the only thing I still like on it is the rail. Or you can get a small clamp on one. ImageUploadedByFirearms Talk1391579078.070659.jpg ImageUploadedByFirearms Talk1391579090.871533.jpg

Or you could get a light that mounts inside the Mag. Tube, which can also take a laser.....

Streamlight also makes a hanguard light system also. Surfire is a great system also!

You can find lights with a sturdy mount that clamps on the barrel on eBay. Personally, I would get a forearm with a rail made into it, especially if you already have a black synthetic stock.

Agree, I don't want it built into the forearm.

Ok group, yesterday at the gun show I found and bought a light bracket for my 500. It is the type (looks like a figure 8) that clamps on up towards the muzzle end and clamps the flashlight off to the side. Hope that is clear, otherwise I can attach a picture. Anyway my question is - do I attach the clamp to the barrel or the magazine tube?

If the light has an on/off button on the back of the light, mount the light where you can just bump the back of the light with your thumb. There is no wrong way to mount the light.

Don't try to slide the light mount with it semi tight. The mount will scratch the finish on your shotgun.
