If she's already familiar with the Mossberg 500 I say get her another Mossy 500 but in 20ga. They can easily be had for less than $400.

If you decide to get a 20 ga mossberg buy a combo. It's usually only $40 more to get a combo with 2 barrels. If you just buy a barrel it will cost around $100 used.

You will have to get very lucky to find a Christmas present pretty semi auto for $400.

Oh I didn't even think it would be a semi-auto. He didn't specify, so I personally was talking about a pump.

Yeah she's using a pump 12 gauge right now I think a semi would be much better for her I wonder if I can find one under 400.00

Just don't follow Joe Biden's advice and get her a double barrel.

Should she fire it as Joe sez, she could be in for a little legal trouble if you reside within city limits.

LOL. Can't speak for his, but mine is a great cook. Unfortunately, it would take a bit more than a Maverick 88 to get me to trade. What else could you throw in? :p

OP, check the LGSs in your atrea as well as any pawn shops. I picked up an 870 youth combo a couple years back for around $300 at my local archery\gun shop. Deals are out there. You just have to do some running to find them.

If it has not been suggested yet I would recommend H&R Pardner Youth in 20 ga.:) Under $200 and solid as a rock.

    swann,

My suggestion if it were me, I would see if I could find her a good used Remington Model 1100 in 20 gauge as mentioned. They normaly are purchased on a whim whith good intentions of doing a lot of hunting but in reality they never are used much at all. Just take thier place in the gun case or cabinet. If you shop around you can usually find a nice one for around $400 or a little more. But I am sure she would love the gun and appreciate the gas system reducing the recoil significantly. I seen one on Gun Broker with a black stock with the box for right at $400.00 looks like new.

Cabelas has a 11-87 w 26" every now n then for $450 on sale. A used 1100 is also nice. The difference in recoil between gas gun vs pump is Night vs Day.

Your wife will "thank you" every time she pulls the trigger. Old adage, "If Momma ain't happy -aint Nobody happy." ;)

Remington 1187 in 12 or 20 gauge or a 870 in 20 gauge. The reason is that you can change barrels. A short barrel for defense and longer barrels for skeet and hunting.

Get her a Benelli Montefeltro 20 gauge. You will never have any regrets.

I am with the guys above on the 1100 and the 1187's. They are great low recoil 20 gs. Another option would be a used Browning BPS. If she likes a pump the BPS is 10 times the gun a mossturd or mossturd clone is. (Ducks Head)
