Horrible tragedy that occurred in my old neighborhood to a good man from my community.

Father of 4, devoutly religious, hard working family man, stabbed, shot in the head and robbed of $900 in his store. Anytime something horrific happens we as observers go into: "how could this have been prevented" mode. How could this have been prevented? What steps could have been taken to prevent this tragic loss of life?

One thing is for sure, NYC gun control laws sure didn't work!!!

IMO, education. Let business owners know that they have the option of owning a firearm, that they can be armed as well. Education; train business owners on how to address a threat like this, how to draw down and use their firearm to protect themselves.

Again, I am from this community, there are NOT a lot of people that believe in owning a firearm, even though in the bible, in Exodus, there is a passage that say that (and I paraphrase here) a threat to one's own life should be met with lethal force. This tenet of faith is clearly mimicked by the 2nd amendment. Yet cities like NYC make it so difficult to obtain a firearm legally that often times people it's not worth the effort....well it IS.

This man's life was probably taken by someone that knew him and his schedule, someone that knew when he made the rounds of picking up the rents from his tenants. Had he been a gun owner that could have been one other bit of information that the person or persons who did this would have known and perhaps they would have thought otherwise. At least he could have drawn his weapon and possibly protected himself, injured the perpetrator or prevented this completely.

His family was going to celebrate his 60th birthday, now they had to plan his funeral.

    Very sad...

Will Bloomberg appear at his funeral? With his armed bodyguards?
There is only one law ... ONE LAW ... and it is divine in its origin.
And that is the LAW OF SELF-PRESERVATION. F**k Bloomberg!

Oh he's buried already. Jewish law required that he be buried before sundown on the following day. There was media at the funeral though.

Very Sad but I would not describe it as Tragic or even unexpected. These types of crimes are the natural result of Human interaction and they increase dramatically when Government picks winners and losers.

The effect of Gun Control is the Government sanctioning violence by one group while admonishes other for participating.

I've never been to the Rotten Apple but should I make it one day, I'll be sure to wipe my ass with Bloombergs face.

There is no Background Check, Brady Bill or waiting period in the alley in Harlem. Criminals love the Gun Control Laws because only the law abiding victims follow them.

Never been but from what I've heard, it would take a truck full of "Laxitives" to "properly" greet the deserving residents of that state!

BACK to the original post- it IS a crying shame. I know of places (NYC and elsewhere) that you can get killed for a box of Lucky Charms, much less $800.

There WAS a really cheesy movie in the 80's called Swamp Thing. Classic line- Adrienne Barbeau is with a little black kid in his Grandma's country store- being pursued by the bad guys. She asks "Does your Grandma have a gun here?". Little kid looks at her, says" What kind of a store do you think this is? Of COURSE we got a gun!"

As long as you have people that feel THEY have a right to what YOU have, gun control laws will do nothing but put the elderly, weak and small at the mercies of the young, strong and vicious.

IMHO, shoot him, put his head on a pike outside the store as a warning to others, and the Merchant's Association should give him a small cash award and a plaque. That would be much more effective at reducing violent crime than the chalk that homicide detectives use to outline the position of bodies.
