What are ya'll's thoughts about the .30 caliber in the Ar-15/M-4 non-gas system being touted by Advanced Armament Corp?

They call it the 300AAC Blackout. 115-125 grs more velocity from 8" than the 5.56mm from 16" and exceeds AK-47 rounds@500 meters with 16 " barrel.

Bullets produced by Remington at $12.99/box. The brass is reloadable. Reloading dies from Forest. Data is supplied by AAC. Bullets provided by Hornady and Sierra.

I think that this could be the answer to the quest for a more powerful carbine role...

Look at the new Wilson Combat 7.62x40 first. Its based on the 223 case and uses standard mags and bolt.

verrrrry interesting. i been on the fence about the 300blk but it looks like with the wilson i just need a barrel and dies. run regular 223 brass through the sizer and good to go...

all else is standard ar parts.

I'd heard it was the same with the Blackout. Is that not the case?

Nvm, I see now that the Blackout case is much shorter. It's still the same mags and barrel though.

So with this 7.62x40, do you just next up the cases and trim them down?

.300 BLK is starting to go mainstream a little. You can buy commercially made ammo for it now and several manufacturers are building barrels and complete uppers. What are the prospects for the 7.62x40?

I have a 300BLK and so far so good. The Wilson offering was tempting but I believe they are the only ones making it. Kinda scary although it does look interesting.

On the AR 15 forum under varriants you can get a complete description of the 7.62x40. All you have to do is trim your brass and resize. The x40 get about 125 fps on the Blackout. Other barrel makers are starting to look at the x40 too. Using 5.56 brass is a big plus for me. The 300 bo is getting some press right now and it may take off, who knows? I also here there will be a 6.8x40 soon.
