In another forum, a member claimed his wife was shooting 75% bulls-eyes with a Ruger Mark III handheld at 100 yards. I called BS. But that's based on seeing the technical specs of the bullet, not any actual experience.

What say the more experienced members of the forum?

    How big is the bullseye?

If someone told me they were hitting a 1" target @ 100 yards with a .22 pistol with 75% accuracy I would want to see it for myself. With a quality rifle, it's believable but still not easy. 2" @ 100 yards with a rifle is still a good shot but not unheard of.

if the bulls eye is 10feet across im sure it could be done at 300 or more yards. just depends on how big the bullseye is :)

that's what I was thinking, but I can only hold 3" circle at 50' with a red dot. Can't imagine 300' and hand holding.

Offhand MOA accuracy with a pistol is highly unlikely. I would simply tell him that is amazing- and let it go.

Given enough practice with a decent, well-sighted, long barrel pistol and good ammo, regular 100 yard hits are certainly possible. For example, 75% hits on a 12" bullseye would be believable.

Lots of people can shoot pistols at 200 yards and hit. But I've never seen anyone do it smaller than 18"

I can't even SEE a bull's eye at a 100 yds, much less hit it!:(

I did make a lucky shot one time, before my eyes went bad, & hit a soda can about 100 yrds away, on my first shot, with a H&R .22 revolver. Missed it the other five shots.

I'm pretty darn good with a pistol but if its a "normal" paper target I would call shenanigans.

One of my kids is a superb pistol shot. I have seen him shoot clay targets at about 100 yards with a heavy barrel Ruger 22 pistol. But they are about 4" and he missed sometimes. I'm sure many people are a better shot than him so if the bullseye was 3" or 4" I would say its possible(but I would have my doubts).

Without support, I'd say that is absolutely amazing. With my 8" Raging Bull, standing unsupported, I've hit a 12" gong at 100 yards with 6/6 shots, though usually it was more like 4 hits out of 6.

But, I'd be far more impressed with him as a shooter than the gun or the cartridge. I know there are people shooting 3-4" groups with .22 target pistols, but that's from a rest and often with a scope. I'd almost think you'd have to die and develop rigor mortis before you're body was still enough to pull that off without support :p .

    Too funny!

With my 22/45 at the indoor range, I sent the target down to 75' and fired off a shot... bad lighting, dark back drop, etc. I'm looking and don't see anything, so I ask SWMBO if she can see where I hit... She thinks I missed the paper :) Damned if i didn't hit it dead center... but that was ONE out of about 50 holes in the paper :)

my dad used to be able to put about 75% hits on a beer can at 100 yards with his 9 inch barrelled Ruger mark II, with a scope, from a standing position.

Using that same gun, i'm not quite there yet. maybe a basketball at that distance :D

I set up two 4" clays at 100 yards, shot 2 rounds freehanded with my ruger mk3,4" barrel/stock open sights and took them both out.But that was once and I have never, ever been able to repeat it again.I can hit 75% of a 1" circle myself------------from 7 yards!
