I said on an LCR review string that I'm a huge Ruger fan. This manufacturer was my entry into shooting and I can't imagine any reason I won't remain a fanboy. These Ruger revolvers are made like tanks, are more accurate than I am, and offer a value I don't see from S&W (which is why I went this route in the first place, despite seeing lots of reviews/posts reinforcing that S&W is indeed the king of the hill for revolvers).

With the GP100, I'm glad I got the 4' barrel. This is not a carry piece (for me). the extra heft and better sight picture of the 4" is great.

I added a Crimson Trace after purchase and it was not as easy a fit as it should've been but with a little sanding I got my wood inserts back in, instead of the ugly plastic insert that came with the laser grip.

I clean it after every range trip with Hoppes #9 and have had no issues at all in 2 years. Some failure to fires occasionally, but I think this was when I was experimenting with ammo more. There are some ammos it prefers, but I hear this is common with most guns. I love that it'll take 38+ most of the time, and I keep the last 3 filled with 357 when it sits in the bedroom lock box nightly. 38 definitely shoots differently and I hardly ever use any unless I bring my wife or a new shooter to the range, but I'm glad it has this capability, since I believe one mission of firearms owners is to help demystify guns and shooting to those who are new to it (as I was a couple years ago).

    Pros: Quality

    Cons: none!

The Ruger GP100 is my "go to" gun.  Mine was given to me by my Father a few years ago and has been my constant companion in my travels.  This seems strange but it is one of my only weapons to NEVER in any way large or small, fail me.  I have used everything from junk russian ammo, to high dollar match and personal protection ammo, and this gun eats it all like a hungry dog.  Like all .357 mag's, the .38 special,  is a cheaper (and easier on the wrist) alternative.
Accuracy is excellent, and the satin stainless makes it a very easy keep.
I highly recommend this weapon to anyone.
