  I've never taken mine out hunting. But make sure you get a mag plug before you do anything.

  the Remington 870 12 ga. Express Magnum was my first gun too. I have the same gun, 18" barrel
  and syn stock. For ammo i keep mine loaded as follows1. 7 1/2 bird shot2. #4 buck3&4. 00 Buck5.

  I don't know about the Mossy part, but Remington offers a 20 ga HD gun with an 18" barrel. I'm
  sure you could find a 18" barrel if you look in the right place.

  I went with the synthetic on my 870, simply becuase I did not want to pay for a Wingmaster and
  I think the wood express 870 look like crap. The wingmaster is a beautiful wood stock.
