  You also have the Leupold Rifleman series for around 200 bucks in the Cabelas catalog. Nikon
  Pro-staffs are a little less.

  Don't forget about the Leupold Vari-X II's,They are in that price range and caryy the lifetime
  warranty. I have a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9X40 and like it a lot also.

  Dont' forget the price of ammo!!! WSM ammo is PRICEY!!!! Why not get a 270 Win.,30/06,308Win,
  and with the cost savings,you can afford to shoot more. The last few boxes of 270 ammo I bought
  at Cabelas...

  And bullet construction. I wouldt hesitate to use my 270 on any 4 legged critter in N.A.(
  except BIG bears) with the right bullet.
