I believe the J. C. Higgins firearms were carried by Sears, and were manufactured by all sorts
of different gun makers, including Savage/Springfield/Stevens, Winchester, Mossberg, etc..

The Savage 6A, and all of its mutations were like that. You could lock the bolt and use it like
a bolt action. I have one, and the brother to it, a 7A mutation. And I have never had one jam,
