  For a 16” barrel I would go with one from BravocompanyUSA.com or Daniel Defense. Both are tier 1
  barrels.

  There is always a round in the chamber. When it gets bad I doubt there would be enough time to rack the
  slide. With a good holster you should never have a concern about an AD.

  I would stay away from the 597. I have seen more than a few issues with them. Most of the time it is FTF
  or FTE. If you want a semi go with the 10/22. A blast to shoot and tons of aftermarket support ...
