If you use a regular gun oil never leave any in the bore. Black powder fouling and petroleum
based oils leave a nasty tar like residue thats a booger to clean. Always use vegetable based
    lubes with bp...

Can't tell much from the pics. A GUESS is that its a brown bess, but it could be anything. Too

[QUOTE=Moe M.;415667]A .38 special round is a better manstopper than a 9mm, especially in round

    time I have ...

... I was thinking possibly .30 rimfire short? Is this ammo worth anything?According to
"Cartridges of the World" the .30 short is 0.822" long, with a bullet dia. of 0.286" and a rim
    dia. of 0.346". C...

    I use a 240grs LSWC over 9.7grs of 700x in my 4" Taurus m44. Book says that it's traveling
~1000fps. Not quite a 44 special load, but is easy to shoot, + is very accurate in my revolver.

Loaded up, and shot, a dozen rounds, using Winchester and Wolf primers. No problems.Looks like
it was the primers. The Rem 1 1/2 and Magtech 1 1/2 sp primers will be used in .38 and 9mm
    loads for now ...
