Might be OK if you had a slide fire. Ares armor uppers are piston and not DI, so it might work

If you got one as part of a package deal on a rifle kit, then you might be OK, but otherwise I
would rather put iron sights on the handguard, so as to start out with a good mechanical zero.

I suggest you deal with your wife's felony first if you want a home based FFL. Another option
