It's muzzle BRAKE, not break. Anyway, it does help reduce recoil with slugs and I guess it
would prevent a barrel burst during door breaches and similar. I have one of the Mossberg
barrels for an 870 ...

I have one that I purchased used for $150 from GM....it's my understanding the all-steel models
were/are re-branded as .357 Magnums and the alloy frames are limited to .38 Special standard
