I always thought the third notch was used just to unscrew the firing pin for dissaembly.

I highly dislike Remington 770s. Anyone that'd purchased one hasn't done their research if they
plan on having it functioning and accurate long enough to pass on to the next generation.

Remington 770 is a throw away rifle. The barrel is pressed into the receiver so wouldn't be
possible to change out if it gets burnt up or bent dropped etc. Not to mention when it heats up

Just please dont buy a Remington 770. I'd suggest used savage 22lr bolt for first rifle like
everyone else. Then of course the mosin is a fun gun cheaper to shoot than most if ur willing
to take care ...
