Look into the 308 its a good caliber cheap amo and well suited to the 300 yard shots you were

I have to agree with the proper bullets it has its place to me it is still a home defence gun
or as you say a varmit gun . They are a lot of fun but so is a 10/22 ruger with cheaper ammo .

I beg to disagree the 223 is less then lethal and was designed as such for the simple reason it
takes at least 2 more soldiers to remove a wounded comrade to safety using up resources to heal
