It won't do any harm but you'll have a very very nasty case of lead fouling of you do it too much. And accuracy won't be as good although still might be acceptable.

I wouldn't recommend the newer 870 express models but an older wingmaster would be great. I personally recommend a mossberg 500 as they're everywhere, dependable, and affordable no frills shotguns....

500's haven't really changed in the 52 some years they've been around. Most parts should still work. Like what everyone else said though, we need pics. TBH you shouldn't have to replace too many...

I use 12 gauge with Remington #6 game loads. 28 inch vent rib and IC choke. Pretty good setup and doesn't ruin the meat too bad.

I'd get a blued/wood mossberg 500 with a 28inch barrel for trap/skeet/small game etc. and an 18inch barrel for HD. You can't go wrong with a Mossberg 500.

Why do you want the pistol grip? Looks? I'd much rather buy a standard stocked mossberg and put the money saved towards ammo. That stuff isn't getting any cheaper and you're going to need to practice.
