I keep my 1911 in my nightstand with a full mag. but an empty chamber. The people in my home that can rack one in are all trusted to be safe but still leave it alone. This works for me.

Thanks for that info. I think I'll try some white epoxy paint on the present sights for a while and see if that helps make them more visible.

We found the Remington for $299. So far I'm happy with it. Waiting until payday to buy a bipod for it. I mounted a new Weaver Steel-lite II 4 X 12 on it just to see how it shoots.
