The best thing for home defense, IMO, is a 12 gauge PUMP shotgun. Not very expensive either.
For a handgun I would recommend a revolver.

The functionality of the gun wasn't affected so I asked them to return it to me without changing out the frame. S&W did perform a funtionality/reliability test which it passed.

No. Its more like hitting a pothole with your car and the doors fell off. The gun should be made to withstand some abuse. It's a gun, not an egg.
