Looks great. My 18" guns have rifle length gas systems. With them I use H3 (5.4 oz.) buffers. With my 16" mid length guns, I use HHS (6.5 oz.) buffers.

I would think that would provide sufficient energy to set off those hard primers. You could experiment with a heavier hammer spring. The easy way to do that is to bend the legs to increase tension.
