Are they a 1911 no but then they were not intended to be what they were intended to be was a inexpensive but accurate and dependable handgun that most folks could afford. They are good guns.

I have heard more positive comments from those that own them than negative. Any gun can malfunction I do not worry about that. My 45 Hi Point has run flawlessly. Too BULKY to carry easy concealed....

Well I like my Hi Point 45 and I will also say yea they are ugly but then so is Glock and the rest of the Polymer guns. When it comes to Semi Auto's nothing looks as nice as a 1911.
