Two Options

I have been in the same place as the original poster.

After years of shooting carbines and military surplus rifles,
I wanted a bolt gun that would have excellent accuracy, ...

M11/9 SMG .22 conversion kit

Does anybody have any recent experience with the Fleming .22 conversion kit for the Cobray or MAC M11/9, MAC-10, and similar weapons?
This is the replacement barreled upper that uses Ruger 10/22...

No Pics

I didn't get any pics of the gun with the new barrel on it before I dropped it off at the gunsmith to thread the muzzle for a silencer and to drill and tap the barrel for a front peep sight base. ...

Range Report

I just received my Green Mountain 22-inch sporter, tapered, stainless barrel. It shoots much better than my old factory Ruger barrel. At 100 yards my group size shrank from 4" to 1", and at 25 yards...

Three Likely Choices

I'm also looking for a replacement barrel for my 10/22. Now that I've put a good quality peep sight on it, I've found that it's not all that accurate. Putting two different scopes on it and shooting...

Two

Those AR-7 survival rifles, the ones where the barrel and action can be stored in the huge hollow plastic stock, are lousy. Inaccurate and unreliable, in my experience.

The Phoenix Arms .22...

Three

1--Any of the AR-7 survival rifles-- the ones that disassemble and can be stored in the stock. I like the idea, but I've seen and fired three of them, and two were unreliable with many malfunctions....

Age

Does it have a serial number? I know they weren't required on .22 rifles before 1968, and all of these Remington 512s were made from 1940-1967.
But if there was a way of establishing what year it...

Here's a link to a web page for the gun I wish I'd bought (though it would have cost $100 more up front).

Good and Bad

I've had one for 3 years. It feels great in my hand. It has the same kind of sights and trigger as a real self-defense combat pistol. It fits several of my favorite holsters. The price was right. I...

No Paperwork

Are you sure your grandfather did not register this weapon with the feds back when he could and should have, or during the amnesty period back in 1969, I think it was? Maybe he registered the gun...

Oh, I know the original poster was looking for a rugged field/ military type peep sight, but I just wanted to toss this out:

Tech-Sights

Tech Sights came in and I put them on my standard factory Ruger 10/22 with the skinny 18" barrel.

I easily zeroed the rifle in at 25 yards, and it was quite a bit more accurate with these sights...

Okay, I received the Industry brand rear aperture sight from Archer Airguns. It's very tall, and I could not find a front sight to fit the standard-weight Ruger barrel that would stick up tall...

ARs

Years ago, I think the Mini-14 was the more accurate rifle. But now so many serious target shooters are using the AR-15, and putting really good scopes on it, that most ARs are being built for...

Here's my Ruger 10/22 that I've turned into a budget training rifle for bullseye shooting from 50 feet to 100 yards, firing from the standing, sitting, and prone positions. Everything internal is...

If you only want to put a magnifying rifle scope on this gun, your best bet on rings would be the kind that will screw directly to the mounting holes in the top of your gun's receiver. Fewer layers...

One to Avoid

I bought a Bushnell Sportview 3-12X , 40mm lens, adj. objective. It had a retail price of about $90 but I found it on sale for $60. It does not focus at close range. It's acceptable for 25 yard...
