It's the piece that holds the sight and houses the piston/operating rod. Containing the rod is its primary function.

The more I look at it the more I think that this rifle is a total loss...

The FIRST thing I did upon purchase of my sr40c was to remove the mag disconnect. I've never experienced any issue. It's my favorite carry piece. I even sold some others after I picked it up

People do talk. But I've run a pretty good amount of the 165gr "hot" stuff (like underwood) through mine. No trouble. A recoil spring upgrade and a Henning's cone fit guide rod are cheap and lessen...

I'd take my elite match over anything in its price range. Great gun. I've got the 10mm and it shoots like a dream. It really doesn't get much better at that cost, and I've paid more for less pistol....
