I'd rather have the pre-64 if using open sights and being lighter and handier. It is "the" deer rifle. They hold value better. The 336 gets the nod with a scope. I've got both. $400 for a new one...

I've shot a lot of .243 and 30/06 ammo. The '06 is the best all around but for deer and varmints the .243 wins. Flatter shooting, safer, cheaper to load, and a lot less recoil.

Sometimes I wonder where local dealers come up their suppliers and why, since they are so much higher than others. Just saving on taxes helps. The Govt. will just blow it anyhow.

Since I shoot Left handed, I guess I'll stick with the Remington. If I could have gotten a Howa action cheap, it might be worth it. I really want match grade accuracy.
