The 1948 M44 is a very low number produced rifle. Do some research on it. It's worth a more than the run of the mill M44.

Mobile 1 synthetic works like a charm. And a quart will out last the owner. Research it. Makes a very good gun lube. I have been using it for over 5 years and still have oodles and oodles of it left.

Portable steam cleaner like the "Shark" works pretty good. Also putting them in a black trash bag, and laying it out in the Texas summer sun works pretty good as well. :)
