Best NON +p .38special?

It seams to be that out of an airweight snub, +p .38 specials might not be worth the ballistic gain. First, does anyone carry regular .38's in their snubbies, and if so, what do you think is the best...

If you fire a 38 special out of a 357 magnum revolver, do you always have to thumb cock the hammer between each shot? Same question for a 44 special out of a magnum revolver.

In loads just for plinking with a medium to full size revolver, how does the recoil of the .45 long colt compare to the .357 magnum, .45 acp, and the .327 federal magnum? Same question for full on...
