Actually Gauge refers to the size of a lead ball, the number of which equal one pound. So a 22 gauge buckshot pellet would indicate the size of the lead ball used.

With conventional small pellet, (#1B or 00B), buckshot, if the Gun/Choke/Load will not hold a 100% pattern in 10 inches or less at 25 yards it is not worth taking afield!
