Does the serial# have a letter prefix?
If so, post it, and I will tell you year of manufacture.
If it has no letter prefix, it was built pre 1940.

H&R used the one piece grip on the Sportsman...

H&R used the one piece grip on the Sportsman models until 1954 I believe.
It may have been 1953 that they changed to the 2 piece grips.
Not sure which year.

Not always a complete take down, but always use a boresnake, and a thorough wipe down with Hoppe's and then final with a silicone rag.

However, they are nickel plated, not stainless.
Don't have my Blue Book available to tell you exact years of production, but, about 1976 - 1986 would be a good guess...
