Twelve years ago I purchased a Stevens model 79 pump 12 gauge shotgun with a 30" barrel used. The serial # is 0982XXX. Does anyone know the approximate manufacture date of this shotgun?

I can't tell from the photo where your case is cracking/bulging. It could be due to a variety of issues. It really depends where on the case it is cracking/bulging. I have seen some .22-.250 cases...
