I'm wondering if it's a a quality control thing - good batches and bad batched.

Looking at the actual powder the grain size seems to run from large gravel to pepper size bits.

I use equal parts of murphy's oil soap ...

rubbing alcohol
hydrogen peroxide

I finish with dry patches down the bore and a patch with crisco on it the following day
