If you want the nice low profile sighs you will need to mill the slide. The "huge,ugly" sights are for people who want a direct replacement for stock sights.

I didn't really look into it since I didn't want to go with a scout scope but, pretty sure the rear sight dovetail is 3/8". So a 3/8" to Weaver rail should work, and then you can mount whatever scope...
