A finish of some sort can be applied to an Inox slide. I have a Beretta that came from the factory with a blackened stainless slide. These models are referred to as "Cajun" for obvious reasons.:D

The caliber is 7.62x54R, "R" standing for rimmed. It packs a little bit more punch than the .308 Win or 7.62x51. Surplus ammunition is plentiful and cheap, but corrosive and not terribly accurate....

I use both. I use the slotted tip to thoroughly soak the barrel with solvent before running a brush down and I use a jag at the end of the cleaning process.
Doesn't hurt to have both.

I recommend a Ruger Mark I, II, or III as well. Accurate and reasonably priced. I had a Beretta Target Model but shot the Mark III much better and it cost half the price of the Beretta.
