You'd obviously want to use a really old book that doesn't have much value, e.g. Twilight, or a dictionary. The book I used was over 30 years old, and is 10 editions out of date. :-P

If I had an Exacto knife I would have compared it to see which was best. The box cutter might have been sharper and easier to press down on, but the Exacto reaches further.

It had to be thick/wide/tall enough to fit the gun inside. I happened to have a few textbooks that someone gave me, they were all about 30 years old, so I just picked the largest one.

I was going to have the gun near my bed anyway, so it would either be that, or strapped somewhere on by bed in a holster, or in a drawer.

I'm familiar with the GoPro, however this camera is much smaller, it weighs about 2 ounces. I'm guessing the force of the slider is in the same area as the force of the arrow I mounted the camera to.
