Gun cleaning

I shoot mainly black powder, I use Hoppe's #9 to clean them and WD 40 to protect the barrel and metal parts. I even follow this procedure with my modern rifles.

With Hawken guns and Civil War...

fired by an experienced person have very fast lock times.

I HAVE shot "Treasure Island" style flinters with the click, fissst, boom shot.

But mine have well timed and polished lock parts, sharp...

That's my guess - the bullet didn't seat on the powder charge so it acted as a bore obstruction.

Personally, my view of "in-line" muzzle loaders is a jaundiced one. They make as much sense...

I have A Brown Bess Repro (Pedersoli) and a Charleville Repro (Navy Arms) smooth bores. Never shot either but are preparing to shoot the Bess very soon.

Also have a Parker Hale made in England...
