Nice, I did the same to my WASR, but used a Minwax stain in Sedona Red.......turned out nice. Use care when removing the wooden upper hand guard as the wood is quite thin; I ended up splitting mine...

SKS stock re-finish

Picked up a cheap Yugo SKS from a friend and I had some extra time on my hands. After removing the stock and sanding it down, I used some camo spray paint to give it a custom look.
