Default Would it be legal if..

if you are at an open carry demonstration and want to defeat face recognition software and high resolution photography if you wear a ski mask and tape over the serial # of your weapon?

maybe a Ski mask patterend as an american flag would be more palatable?
or tieing a properly sized american flag to cover the face up to the eyes.

This would be sufficient to defeat face recognition software also while looking less scary.

In Europe hard core demonstrators from the left often wear ski masks or as a minimum cover parts of the face.

We are obiouvsly not at the stage where such demonstrations are happening.
And at this stage it would not be advisable and likely used by the enemies of our republic to show how we are bad and scary...

But if condtions modify...
is there a federal law against a) wearing aski mask in public and b) temporarily taping over the serial? (another solution to the serial would be to cary the weapon so the serial is cobvered up of course)

in my book if you are wearing a mask AND carrying a firearm or other commonly recognized weapon... you are NOT one of the good guys and have said to me please eliminate the threat.

only government hitmen and terrorists need to cover their faces

I know of no law or regulation that requires you to show you face

I believe it is illegal to wear a ski mask in certain jurisdictions. You would have to check your local laws. It is your right; although, there are local laws that infringe upon them.

So, I would check to make sure.

Bluez- You asked if it was legal.

Does this bunch of bozos LOOK like lawyers?

Now. LEGAL means complies with the law. And there are 57 different states that have laws. Do not know about where YOU are, but here in Virginia, you WILL end up needing that lawyer. C&P from the Virginia Criminal Code:

§ 18.2-422. Prohibition of wearing of masks in certain places; exceptions.

It shall be unlawful for any person over sixteen years of age while wearing any mask, hood or other device whereby a substantial portion of the face is hidden or covered so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, to be or appear in any public place, or upon any private property in this Commonwealth without first having obtained from the owner or tenant thereof consent to do so in writing. However, the provisions of this section shall not apply to persons (i) wearing traditional holiday costumes; (ii) engaged in professions, trades, employment or other activities and wearing protective masks which are deemed necessary for the physical safety of the wearer or other persons; (iii) engaged in any bona fide theatrical production or masquerade ball; or (iv) wearing a mask, hood or other device for bona fide medical reasons upon (a) the advice of a licensed physician or osteopath and carrying on his person an affidavit from the physician or osteopath specifying the medical necessity for wearing the device and the date on which the wearing of the device will no longer be necessary and providing a brief description of the device, or (b) the declaration of a disaster or state of emergency by the Governor in response to a public health emergency where the emergency declaration expressly waives this section, defines the mask appropriate for the emergency, and provides for the duration of the waiver. The violation of any provisions of this section shall constitute a Class 6 felony.

(Code 1950, §§ 18.1-364, 18.1-367; 1960, c. 358; 1975, cc. 14, 15; 1986, c. 19; 2010, cc. 262, 420.)

c3 shooter.
Thank you , for both the refernece and obviously the first comment is good as well.

Biut you see it worked out anyway since you answered

I think wearing large sunglasses in combination with a baseball cap is proably sufficient to confuse face recognition software.

PS: Jon: Policemen also gett o cover their faces when they out on riot gear. And they carry weapons also.
But no one from that ,takes an implicit persmission to shoot at them.. it is their right to wear both....And whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

Bluez, remember that the police can be issued a firearm that can go full-auto that was produced after 1986. You can't.

THer are several DIY vids about LED lights mounted to ball caps that really mess with many security cameras. Especially IR cams. Beats looking like one of those BG targets LEO use.

It is illegal to alter the serial number of a firearm. Temporarily covering it does not alter the serial number.

The NFA of 1934 is unconstitutional and wa sonly possible due to the unprecendented dominance of the executive branch at the time.

There is nothing police and military are issued that is unconstitutional for us ot have.
remember the revolutionary war was fought to great extent with privately owned cannon.

To follow the intent of the founderd and for us to be a true counterwieght to possible foreign invaders or domestic enemies we need the freedom to operate RPG 29's, MANPADS, SAWs etc
