Default would this be legal

Would i be legal to open carry a pellet/bb pistol in Illinois? The reason im asking is because theres a field i shoot my pellet guns/bbguns at near my house that i walk to. I haven't had problems walking with my air rifles but i just want to be sure.

I would call the local police station and ask them. If they think it is against the law, they will probably detain you even if it is not. If they tell you it is ok get the officers name that you speak with to tell the stooges that stop you for carrying a bb gun.

Good advice from Ricky. Illinois law prohibits persons under age 13 from possessing except with your parents present, on your home turf, etc, BUT there can also be local ordinances that are more restrictive. You also need to pay attention that you are shooting in a legal manner- not across a road, not towards a house- and that land belongs to someone- do you have their OK?

Here is the Illinois State law: http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=1934&ChapAct=720%26nbsp%3BILCS%26n bsp%3B535%2F&ChapterID=53&ChapterName=CRIMINAL+OFF ENSES&ActName=Air+Rifle+Act

I'm in Illinois and it will vary by municipality. The little town I grew up in, 2500 pop, we would ride our bikes with our BB guns strapped over our backs. This was in the 80s.

Now a kid can't shoot a BB gun in the city limits. Not even in their own backyard. Makes no sense to me.

The answer it is you are in IL, they don't like guns, and what is and is not legal rarely matters.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. If it looks like a real gun you can get into more trouble than you bargained for.

I presume that you are under the age of 18?

You must be very, very careful. Don't try to be hiding your air rifle/BB gun when you are walking there and home. If you get caught by the wrong cop on a bad day it can ruin your life. As a parent I would accompany you to another property as a chaperone. I would also be shooting with you.
