"Common sense is the WISE use of KNOWLEDGE"!
As you can see there are two components to common sense. The problem we have today is there are MANY people who go from birth to a DEGREE ( under grad to PHD) with no REAL life experience!!!!
The only way to gain WISDOM is by life experience so you end up with a person who is considered 'qualified' simply because they a 'well educated (have a degree). This has been a problem because 'we' have pushed this 'need' for higher education to an extreme for about 50 years now. Thus it would appear that 'common sense' has been KILLED by our over zealous push for more HIGHER education!
Today the ratio is 90 to 95 % Knowledge and 5 to 10 % Wisdom! To me the ideal ratio would be 40 to 50 % Knowledge and 50 to 60 % Wisdom!
