I will also throw out there something fishy that has happened lately to me and others in my dept, we asked for more ammo to go the range and practice and we were told that they didn't have the extra ammo for us to do it right now, only enough for duty, regular mandatory quals and to replace any duty ammo used on duty........ riggghhhttttt...... that's why they are buying so much huh???

As long as you are using the same brand ammo and grain then it doesn't matter FMJ or JHP for a qual or practice.... besides, our brands of ammo changes all the time depending on the supply of what the govt acquires.

Agency? Apparently most Federal agencies have no such problem. State, County and Local LE supplies are low in most places.

They sure are smart. They knew it was Oswald before the movie ended, they knew it was 19 guys from Saudi in hours and then attacked two other countries, they knew small pox in Indian blankets given as gifts would clear the land, and they knew it was the center fuel tank, but never made them change anything.

It's not the JHP ammo they use for practice that bothers me - it's the live human targets...

The Government contracts, be they for ammo, guns, tires or copy paper have a fill date the stuff must be delivered by. The manufacturers can simply not bid, if they choose.
I worked in the defense industry for three and one half years in the mid 80s, watching my tax money go down the toilet. We filled AFPRO and NAVPRO contracts along with some commercial contracts. If the Government had a contract they considered vital to defense of the country, or needed a product for that contract that was scarce, they issued an order, and went to the front of the line. Happened to us with some electronics. At the time it was Westinghouse, and we an GE were two large defense contractors, and it did not matter. They rated their contracts, and if they felt they needed to, they advised the manufacturers of what to fill first.

They can do that with ammo, telling the ammo companies what to make, and how much. Might explain why .22s are as rare as hens teeth.

Now the rules may have changed since 1987, but the ammo availability and the rumors of HRS buying sure don't make it seem like it did.

This is my opinion only, and not meant to throw rocks (big ones anyway) at my brothers and sisters in this thread topic.

Those ammo numbers do not bother me. When you compare to just how many sworn and supportive mission supported gun carrying fed agents that are employed.

The US Marshall Service, has approximately 4000 gun wearing agents that need approximately 1000rds of 40sw per year for carry qualification requirements. That's 40,000 rounds just for that dept. Other departments are similar in need; approximately 1000 rds.

Look how many agents alone wear the green uniform (BP), Then add Customs, Secret Service ICE, DEA, BATF (cough) , FBI IRS, USPS Inspectors ,plus a whole alphabet of depts. All have the same need for duty carry and qualifications. And they all carry the 40sw sidearm.

So relax, if the government decides to come they will do it anyway, they "aint" beefing up supplies to do so. We've already allowed the "beefing up" to occur years ago, when SWAT teams (my love) started looking more like military than officers.

Why is there a shortage, because of us right now, and the suppliers and the manufacturers f or them it's a boom time for their companies bottom line. Think about it CCI makes 4 million 22lr offerings a day. Is that conspiracy? No it's Capitalism at it's worst lol

This purchase is no different from previous years. Of course, facts won't stop a good deep, dark conspiracy theory.
