I guess I'd have to ask when and where.

Even during the civil war, people at least stood and fought for their beliefs. Today, most so-called Americans just roll over and play dead.

Today when the average citizen gets stepped on by the government, he says "thank you," instead of f#ck you.

I agree with marc29th. The flag represents the country, not the government. Therefore I feel I can proudly display the flag even though I fear and distrust the government.

The flag belongs to the people. While some may associate it with a land or a government, I feel that many Americans have such a strong emotional association with the flag because what it really represents is not physical at all. For me, it represents our freedoms and ideas and reminds me of those who have sacrificed greatly for them. It is also a symbol of the intangible but common bond among many generations; a determination to defend our God-given rights. I am proud of all of our soldiers and of the many people who founded our country. As a great-great-great-great-great granddaughter of at least several men who fought in the Revolution, I will always be proud of that flag.

I personally wouldn't. Correct me if I am wrong but flying the flag upside down is a sign of distress. To me distress would be, your a soldier at an army base in Irag and insurgents are about to take over the base unless back up comes. If you don't agree with an elected officials political agenda there are other ways to protest it.
