That was changed in the NDAA of 2008. "Military personnel in civilian clothing and honorably discharged veterans will render a salute."

So flying a flag upside down, is saying "I love my country, and the constitution, and I don't like where the country is headed."

I bet you another thing as well... I bet anyone flying a flag upside down right now is pretty damned patriotic.

You're damn right we are!

Kind of like wearing a crucifix upside down...what is the user trying to convey. Are they satanic?, anti christian?.... or are they being symbolic to the apostles who were crucified, and asked to be crucified upside down, because they weren't worthy to be executed like Jesus....

Truly excellent points, Mosin

The American flag represents a UNITED AMERICA and the Republic....not the feckless government running it. Governments will change but the flag will remain the same as a symbol of our strengths together and our continued desire to be free people. I will not lower my US Flag for any reason and fight anyone who tries.

Well said. I was brought up to respect the flag of our country and consider myself to be quite patriotic. I do feel that this nation is in distress and the future somewhat scary. I fear of the day when we need to fight to reclaim OUR flag. The stars and stripes can not represent a pos corrupt government as well as the Republic "for which it stands"
Someday there may be a need to differentiate between the 2.

What about the day the blue helmets come with an "American flag" on them?? Far fetched?......maybe .....not

I don't take "...the republic for which it stands.." to mean the government. The republic in the context of the United states refers to the individual, sovereign states that make up the country as a whole. So, when you pledge allegiance to the republic, you are in fact pledging allegiance to the idea of united sovereign entities, not the government. There is already a clear definition between country (the republic) and government. Anyone who can't see that distinction has personal issues to work out and are part of the problem.

JMHO.

Thank you again. I thought I was stating the obvious, but apparently I wasn't.
