A person can still work in a union shop as long as they pay "administration fees".

They are not considered union members, but retain the representation of the union.

The down side to saving a couple of bucks is that these people have no say in the CBA or elections.

That's an agency shop. A UNION shop is just that! UNION! No choice.

Never been a fan of unions, most seem to believe they are above the law and exempt from the one person, one vote concept. They have virtually decimated the manufacturing sector in NY and are the single largest cause of outsourcing and Public Entity Bankruptcy. Grouping votes is a pretty powerful tool to get support from others in charge but Im still not buying into it. The Republicrats do love voting blocks, they dont want to earn a single vote if they can buy 100,000 at a crack!

I am not a fan of unions either, but it pays the bills and I have health insurance for my family.
Where if I was at a non union shop I would have pay for it out of my pocket.

My biggest beef is that most of them (not all) are run by left wing goon squads and their dues paying members have no voice. Leaders are usually chosen by a handful of radical "delegates" at a convention and the members get no chance to vote.

At local meetings, where "delegates" are chosen, a handful of strong-arm goons chase off any member that opposes she local leadership.

Kinda like the democrats operate.
