UN Small Arms Treaty Passes While Media Sleeps

Concluding its two-week session today, the second United Nations conference to review the 2001 Programme of Action on trafficking in small arms and light weapons adopted a consensus outcome document that highlighted the international community’s renewed commitment to preventing, combating and eradicating the illicit trade.

The document’s adoption represented a major achievement for delegations, who had failed to agree on a final outcome at the first review conference, held in 2006. “We accomplished something great today,” said U. Joy Ogwu ( Nigeria), President of the Conference, formally known as the United Nations Conference to Review Progress Made in the Implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects.

According to the text, Member States renewed their pledge to rid the world of the scourge brought upon it by the illicit manufacture, transfer and circulation of small arms and light weapons, and their excessive accumulation and uncontrolled spread in many parts of the world. They also committed to mobilizing the necessary political will and resources to implement the Programme of Action and the International Tracing Instrument, with the aim of achieving clear and tangible results over the next six years, through 2018.

Further by the text, States emphasized that the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons continued to sustain conflicts, exacerbate armed violence, undermine respect for international humanitarian law and international human rights law, aid terrorism and illegal armed groups, and facilitate increasing levels of transnational organized crime, as well as trafficking in humans, drugs and certain natural resources.

The media didn't sleep. They were ordered to keep it quiet.

If Obama gets re-elected this will be used against us.

I'm now going to make sure I buy at least one "small arms" gun every month.

Maybe my glasses are not working properly, but I did not see where the United States ratified this. Somebody help me out here because I am about to get on the phone with my Congressman and Senator and I want to have my ducks in a row before I do this.

Wow, what a name. The abbreviation is UNCRPMIPAPCEITSALSAIA
The U.S. needs to abandon, quit supporting, and quit cooperating with the U.N. It has been infiltrated and is controlled by a bunch of abusive dictatorships who have not the best interests of the free world at heart.

Firearms have been my love and hobby since my Grandfather shortened a stock on an old 20 guage single shot, break open shotgun and handed it to me and took me bird hunting at the age of 6....I fired much more modern firearms in the Texas National Guard and moreso in the Marine Corps and have always loved pistols, rifles, & shotguns as well as some black powder muzzle loaders.

It is unthinkable for me to consider that a bunch of foreigners world wide who hate firearms have any say whatsoever in the United States concerning our citizen's firearms guaranteed by our Constitution ! I predict that I and millions of decent, lawful American Citizens will defy UN gun grabbing approved by anti-gun Lawmakers and Presidents here and will resist confiscation, registration or any manner of taking them out of owner's hands. And we shall then in Government's eyes just criminals...So be it ! "From my cold, dead hands" !

I'm not a real big guy about 130 pounds, I live in a city that has pretty high crime every day people get mugged car jacked murder or raped here. I'm not scared I've never felt I personally needed to protect myself. But now I'm grown with a wife and kids and I feel the need to keep them and there home safe. I jus want to know how they expect people like me to do this of they take our right away it makes no since to me. I know this is off subject but just wanted to say it.

Do you not believe what the president says?
