If only the police and the military have guns then the police and the military will be killed for their guns. The Mexicans will start smuggling guns and drugs. They get most of theirs through Guatemala anyway. The big cartels are heavily armed and the weapons did not come from the USA.

Also, if I'm going to risk being arrested or killed over an "illegal" weapon then it'll be a full auto one, not a semi. As they say, "In for a penny, in for a pound."
The government can't stop weed and cocaine from being smuggled into the Country by the ton, why do they think they'd do any better trying to stop AK's or handguns?

Just theoretically speaking, of course, if a person has to buy a black market gun, and run the risk of jail if caught with it, why on earth ger a SEMI-automatic.
Why not get the real McCoy if the penalty is the same?
Same here I just pray everyday it doesn't happen. Ever heard of The Armory anyone? You won't get to it by typing it in your url bar or through google it uses onion routing and is very heavily encrypted you can basically buy any gun you want. They have full auto AK's, M16's, Scorpions, RPG's, grenades, anti air and anti armor weapons etc. It's exactly like the Silk Road except for weapons. I've never been to it because I personally have no desire to have an FBI/ATF party van outside my house.
