Default Sheriff's Assoc. Opposes Carry Bill

Below is a link to a youtube video of some of the Testimony before the Florida House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, March 17, 2014. It shows the Florida Sheriffs Association OPEN OPPOSITION to your right to carry your firearms with you during a mandatory evacuation under a declared state of emergency.

Further, despite words of the Founding Fathers in the Second Amendment, it is their opinion that you only have a "right" to own firearms and not a "right" to bear firearms.

Most states disarm citizens during a "state of emergency" with the excuse being it helps prevent looting. Also, citizens moving around while National Guardsmen patrol is thought to be too dangerous of a situation. Not quite sure how this differs from moving around every day amongst police and civilians, but the state somehow sees a difference.

During Katrina, many weapons were removed from citizens legally carrying and even taken from their homes. Last I heard, less than 15% had been returned.

Sheriffs are elected officials. That makes them POLITICIANS. They cease being law enforcers and become politicians. Sheriffs are slightly more conservative than chiefs of police.

I don't think they want a fight... It's just that their heads are so far up their collective derrières that they mistakenly believe that a war with civilians is A. Impossible and B. Something they could handle.

Personally... I hope they never "need" to receive an "object lesson" on the topic.

Except it's now federal law, they can not confiscate firearms during an emergency.

Confiscation is not what this proposes Florida Bill is about.

This Bill is an amendment to the Florida State carry laws. I will provide exemptions for those carrying a Concealed Firearm Without a permit during mandatory evacuations.
