I make many mistakes in my life. I learn along the way (Honor Student: School of Hard Knocks). I treat others as I would like to be treated. If there's a new person at work, I am there to answer their every question and help them along. I see someone make a mistake, I am there to correct them with a smile and understanding. I don't get the point of being mean to each other. Where does that get you?

I like to use "magazine" and "clip" appropriately so I sound like maybe I know what I'm doing. I want to be taken seriously. If others make the mistake, it drives me insane but I usually let it pass. I certainly wouldn't belittle them over it.

Actually, that was not a grammatical suggestion; it was a spelling correction. I was only following your suggestion to "do my duty" and to "inform/instruct".

Being rude is something BHO and his kind are experts at! We all should be a little kinder and understanding. Sure things have a proper name, but we all know for the most part what someone is referring to. There is always something new to learn and sometimes not treating someone like dirt can make all the difference in the world.

Psalm 82:4 Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

There is nothing wrong with gently or jokingly correcting the terminology of someone who's trying to learn a new sport.

I've seen posts from some of our "clip defenders" exuding far more aggressive asshaterry than the good natured ribbing coming from those who like correct terminology.

Personally, I don't really care what folks want to call them but if I were a noob to a sport like golf and was walking around talking about my fantastic #1 IRON, I think I'd appreciate a more experienced golfer pulling me aside and saying, dude, it's a "driver" not an "iron".

My .02 cents

Tack

I have noticed things that are worse than saying clip instead of magazine, such as very poor grammar and punctuation. Some of it was bad to the point where it was difficult to understand the meaning and intent of the post.

The clip versus magazine issue for whatever reason got a lot of negative attention and I for one just don't think it is a big deal. For years we have seen magazines referred to as "clips" in television and the movies. What are the inexperienced shooters supposed to think? We can let them know the proper term is "magazine" but we don't have to be rude and overbearing about it.

Yes, the PROPER term is a magazine- but I can show you factory packaging that has CLIP printed on it. Yes, it is .45 Colt, not Long colt- but I can find factory boxes marked Long Colt.

Some folks have just not figured out that you need to set some priorities in life- you cannot get foaming at the mouth mad at EVERYTHING- or you will never make it past age 35.

And if folks view you as an <img src="http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=42303"/>, it does not matter what your message is- it will NOT be heard.
There you have it folks. Case closed.

I think as long as you know what the person is talking about its not big deal. I think we as a community tend to be critical of people at times that it doesn't matter and soft handed when it does. Look at the thread of the guy that shot his dresser inside his house on purpose. Definite safety issue, definitely a dumb move and nowhere near the venom of the magazine / clip issue. Not saying he should catch a bunch of hell, just saying there are better corrections out there to make.

The argument is a wasted one. Layman's terms change with society and more average joes would refer to a magazine as a clip than vise versa. I would venture to say most people wouldn't recognize an actual clip if the had it in their hand. For every person you correct there are fifty more that don't know any better including gun owning, conservative, Americans.

If you want to actually help people, make a sticky in the general forum of commonly used / misused terms for this forum. Make it one post long and ask everyone who joins the forum to take a look at it and make some attempt to stick to it. It's like my grandpa used to say, everyone bitches about the weather but no one does anything about it.

Well no offense to anyone here but tell your Drill Sargent you need a clip for your 1911 and see how kind and gentle he handles it! There is a reason proper terminology is required.

Don't over react to those of us that have been trained in the correct terminology.

Why do I call them magazines? (Besides it's the correct term.)
Because brain dead gang banger wannabe's and rappers use the term "clip(s)".

We're not in boot camp; we are participating in a firearms forum, so we don't have to worry about what a drill instructor thinks. I make the motion that we give this a rest.

Darn! All this time I thought a "stripper clip" was a porn video.
