One of my Washington DC liberal friends (I have known this guy since the mid 70s) sends me these Liberal Veterens e-mails. I enjoyed todays. It came with a way similar to Ruger's to e-mail congrassmen to support background checks. I signed up for it, and changed it completely to be anti background checks and all of the gun grabbers grog. So it went in telling the addressees what I have sent them every other time, and that I would work to have them (specifically Bill Nelson) defeated in the next election.

I have called, e-mailed and written letters. I will continue to. I am an NRA member and have encouraged several others to join.

I will continue to do this.

Dao, Nelson must go. That anti gun POS just keeps getting re elected. I wonder why he hates guns so much.

Locally, there's not much I can do, since anti gunners are few and far between. I don't really know of ANY that are in any office on the local level. Be it elected or appointed.

I have written a few letters to my Rep, and my Senators (once again, already pro gun). I also recently wrote a not so nice letter to the Governor of Colorado.

I write mine on a weekly basis. Usually get responses from all of them except for this doucher - http://blog.al.com/wire/2013/04/rep_joe_mitchell_rarely_seen_i.html

Hasn't voted on any bills in the last year and still collects his $55k salary. Also his view is that their should be no new gun control laws enacted because black people need them to defend themselves against "the inbred white man".

Do ya mean that this whole "Gun Control" thing could be solved by simply giving them all Viagra???

One phrase I always keep in mind is, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." What that means is that if you don't actively do something to help out, you are making things worse. You can't sit on the sidelines because doing nothing is adding to the problem. There is no neutral.

So we come to the forum and bitch to each other about gun control and politicians. We even watch videos on Youtube that make us feel superior. We complain that we can't find ammo.

'Fess up - who here has written a letter to their senator? Who has e-mailed their congressman? Joined the NRA? Or if you're already a member, sent a donation? Even if your representatives are pro-gun, write to tell them that you back them and expect them to keep protecting your Constitutional rights.

Here's a biggie: Anyone organize an educational shoot? Grab a friend, family member, co-worker or anyone and invite them to the range. Show them that gun owners are not crazy idiots. Buy them lunch afterwards and talk about the media misrepresentation and hype. Get with your local NRA chapter and see if you can volunteer to help. You can even buy fact pamphlets from NRA or 2nd Amendment Foundation and distribute 1,000 around Wal-Mart or the mall parking lot.

Until we quit consoling each other and turn some of our efforts outward, the anti-gunners will keep making progress. Take 15 minutes this weekend and do SOMETHING that is out in the middle of this battle. It's amazing how good it makes you feel.
Could not agree more!!! I have done, and will continue to do, everything you mentioned. I'm with you 100%. Well said!!!!

I am vocal and I am active. Unfortunately I am in an area where pro-2A candidates are few and far between. If they are Pro 2A they will generally shoot themselves in the foot by saying so publicly as it is not a popular stance here in the belly of the beast.

This having been said, I am not going to abandon my home to the anti-gunners. That will just strengthen their resolve.

I have another related question. How many of you are willing to take a stand publicly and declare that you will no longer comply with any firearms restrictions? It seems to me that the only way to combat the legislation would be to refuse to comply with it. There is no way that they could force compliance if a majority of gun owners refuse to comply. It is called peaceful resistance. It does work.

vikingdad, having lived in the same belly of the beast for over three decades, I can sympathize with your plight. Kalifornia, however, holds the most electoral votes. Therefore, what you do is by far some of the most important work that can be done! I used to spend about five hours a week helping the NRA and 2nd Amendment Foundation educating the public and passing out flyers. I was always amazed at the inaccuracies people would throw at me as the reasons they thought we should have stricter gun laws. Maybe check with local NRA politicers and see what they need. It feels so much better to fight the good fight right at the enemies doorstep! Besides, a well spoken guy like you should be doing media interviews instead of the 6th-grade educated, mossy-oak-cap-wearing bearded guy the reporters grab off of the street to "represent" all gun owners. Be our intelligent voice!

It is great to see all of you that do walk the walk. And thanks to those that made further suggestions at how to get involved. Working on the city and local politicians is a great idea - they are often much more accessible. Supporting a candidate in another state when all yours are pro-gun is another great idea. Please, if anyone has another idea on what to do to work against this, please post it. I think most people are unsure how to make things better and have very little time, so an idea that they could accomplish in their allotted time and fit their personality would be fantastic! The more we list, the more likely something fits.
