Default Question About Multiple Gun Purchases

A local gun store here had a huge blow out sale last spring. They had a Beretta Nano very slightly used that came with the case,a 8 rd and 6rd magazine for $329,a Kel-Tec PF9 used ,blued slide with 3 7 rd magazines for $213 and I wanted to buy them both but heard that multiple purchases from the same FFL requires a different form to fill out or something like. Not really liking the sound of that,I just went ahead and bought the Nano and while waiting on my background check to be finished, saw the PF9 get swept up right away.
I could have put the PF9 on lawaway, but the price was only for that day, cash out the door.

IIRC, you can buy up to three different guns on one background check of the 4473 Form you fill out. i have bought multiple guns on one form before.

When you purchase multiple firearms (it may just be multiple handguns, I can't recall exactly) the FFL holder has to fax in a form to the ATF letting them know of the multiple firearm purchase. It is something done behind the scenes and they are not required to notify you of this activity.

i think that pertains to handguns and if you purchase more than five within a 7 day period, they have another form that has to be filled out and sent to the BATF.

I suppose I should have googled it before answering;

http://www.atf.gov/files/forms/download/atf-f-3310-4.pdf

2 or more Handguns in a 5 day period.

i wasn't exactly sure of the number and the exact time period, but that does sound about right though.

In our area, two or more handguns purchased within 5 days. Some states have the requirement on rifles.

The break down on sending is 1 (original) is faxed or mailed to BATF, 1 copy is provided to the local law enforcement agency, and 1 copy is kept with the 4473.

You can list up to 5 firearms on the 4473, but if two are handguns the form is completed.

If you purchase (in my state) 4 rifles and 1 handgun, no additional forms are required.

I have purchased multiple guns several times. Never more than 2 at once though. I have an addiction. I go in to buy a gift for my wife or my son and I can't seem to leave without buying myself something too.

Seriously though...I am an amateur collector. My safe is busting at the seams. But no one has come knocking down my door. I am a law a biding citizen.

If you were going to put the second gun on layaway you weren't making multiple purchases anyway.
Confused...

exactly. you don't even fill out the 4473 Form until you actually take possession of the gun anyways and they do the background check.

i have bought one firearm and put another on layaway before, and only filledout the 4473 form on the one i actually purchsed that day, the other one i filled out when i paid it off and took it home.
