I know that thing is expansive as hell to shoot even if you reload.

The M82 is a tiny bit smoother on recoil than the M99 but I think the 99 is more accurate by a hair. I do not reload. I use Barrett 50 BMG and have fired API out of the 82 at steel plate at 500 yrds. It is very expensive to shoot so I don't shoot them much.

How surprised are you that the maker of the .50 cal. rifle would support the making of .50caliber rifles? I sure as heck wouldn't expect him to say anything else..........

Add in all of the flag waving to make his case sounds like salesmanship to me.

Sure there's an element of self interest involved. The ban directly effects his product. That does not make anything he said less true, however. The law is stupid and will do nothing to curb crime or violence. It accomplishes nothing but to chip away another bit of our 2E rights.

What about the 50 caliber flintlock rifles that were at Lexington and Concord, are replicas of these rifles also banned in The Peoples Republic of Kookafornia? It would seem to me that this is the ultimate outrage of the anti gun crowd. I do believe they have finally stepped on their cranks.

This is the salient point, regardless of how you interpret Barrett's motives. They've banned a type of weapon that to my knowledge has rarely--if ever--been used in a case of violent crime in America. Convenience store clerks, gang bangers and rival crack dealers are not getting killed by .50 caliber rounds. Barrett M89s are not the go-to guns in domestic shootings, and they are not weapons of choice for lunatic mass killers. Where then is the danger? They have banned a weapon out of fear of what someone might do with it...
