This is not 1994
The Truth About Guns - This is not 1994
A very long but informative read that gives an accounting of the AWB of 1994 versus the attempt that will be made tomorrow.
I'll insert my usual disclaimer that gun owners should never be complacent but the bills being proposed are unlikely to pass and now is the time for cool heads and not panic.
All the same, please read through this article to understand how the landscape has changed since the original AWB and why things are not as dire as some are making them out to be.
I have no doubts that Obama and the usual suspects would love to ban all guns and will take their shots where they can. However, the ability to introduce a broad bill like in the Clinton era will not be done simply and not without great political cost. Obama may not be up for reelection but many Democrats will be facing the voters in 2014 and 2016.
For that matter, any Republican even thinking about a compromise needs to be sent packing.

TTAG has a lot of great reads, mobile friendly too. Good article considering I was a child in the 80's/90's.

Yet the panic continues. Can't help but notice Feinstein doesn't seem so gung-ho now. She'll proceed but the general public just doesn't seem to want gun control as a "solution". Not just us gun nuts.

Hope you're right CJ. This is a different bunch than '94. Most of us never thought Mr. Obama would be re-elected. That alone really charged the Left's batteries. They might just believe their time has come, they can pull it off this time.

Hey, com'on man, there's no need for that. They may be slimy, disgusting, and have set civilization back, but at least plague-carrying rats are one of God's creatures too!

The dreaded "Executive Order"
EO's have been badly abused in the last decade. You can thank GWB for a lot of that. While I think he gets an unfair rap, I will say that ole' Bush was a little fuzzy on the limits of executive power and was hardly a fiscal conservative, though I'd take his spendthrift ways over Obama any day.
That said, EO's are not a magic wand, blank check, or silver bullet. The time to issue an EO was a few weeks ago when emotions were high and the wounds were fresh. Obama doesn't have to worry about re-election but he will not cross Pelosi and Reid. Pelosi and Reid very much want to continue to have the Democratic party in power and they will not sacrifice that power to enact loser legislation or to enforce Constitutionally questionable executive orders.
I really wish people would quit talking about EO's like the Boogeyman.
I have no doubt Obama would like to take all our evil guns away. Historically he leads from behind, so I'm not expecting much in the way of political courage here.
