Default Nixon vs the handgun

This goes back pretty far, but who knew (or remembers) that President Nixon was really against gun ownership?

so were reagan carter clinton bush 1 and obama.

american presidents and political leaders are often against private ownership of firearms. they are uncomfortable with the idea they arent all powerful dictators and serve at our behest.

I was two at the time. Yet, I did learn something new today. Fascinating.

Nixon was nuts. He had delusions of being "president (dictator) for life". He was a paranoid schizo, didn't even trust his own henchmen, recorded their conversations, had them followed.

Gotta throw the flag. Reagan was very pro-gun before the alzheimers. Reagan got the FOPA passed. He didn't get everything he (and we) wanted, but it repealed 3/4 of the very onerous GCA68.

Karter, Klinton and Bush the elder were bitterly anti-gun.,

Uh, no!!!

As CA governor Reagan signed the Mulford Act into law, outlawing the carry of loaded guns in public. Reagan and the CA legislature peed all over their panties when the black panthers started carrying guns.

Let's face it. People with strong libertarian leanings who revere and respect the Constitution don't even get to smell the White House. Haven't for a very long time. All of the presidents in modern history have been big gov't. statists to some degree or another. That goes double for Nixon. Disarming the citizenry is what big gov't. statists do.
